Access Bank sacks 800 workers, slashes others salaries by 40% after donating 1billion naira to FG
Barely few weeks after donating one Billion naira as a part of her support to the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, Access Bank on thursday sacked several workers and slashed salaries of retained staff. It was gathered that about 800 workers were secretly dismissed across branches within the country with singular reason of not not needing their services any further. Mouthpiece NGR learnt most of these affected comprises of contract staff, office assistants, drivers, front desk tellers, account and clearing support staff, customer service officers and marketing associates. The salaries of retained staff were equally slashed between 20%-40% and per the management level of every staff. According to a source, Access bank, rather like other banks face threat of rising bad debt levels thanks to crash in oil prices which also coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic that has halted business activities. Another undisclosed source however said the exercise was supported the result of recent staff appraisals which set a baseline to assess staff performance. it’s a usual practice where people who did not meet some key performance indicators and a score card spelt out at the start of the year are temporarily or permanently relieved of their jobs.
